Greatest Super Bowl Teams of All Time

If you don't mind, I'm going to be putting on my Bill Swerski hat and sunglasses, and getting my inner Super Fan on for a little while.

You see, over at Page 2, they've compiled a ranking of all 80 teams to have played in the first forty Super Bowls. I realize these rankings are arbitrary, and down right pointless, but I'm still insulted!!

Let's look at the top 10 teams:
  1. 1989 San Francisco 49ers
  2. 1985 Chicago Bears
  3. 1978 Pittsburgh Steelers
  4. 1992 Dallas Cowboys
  5. 1984 San Francisco 49ers
  6. 1996 Green Bay Packers
  7. 1972 Miami Dolphins
  8. 1986 New York Giants
  9. 2004 New England Patriots
  10. 1991 Washington Redskins
Excuse me? The 1985 Bears at #2? The one with the most fearsome defense in the history of football? The greatest running back of all time, Walter Payton? A certain coach known the world over as Ditka?

What were these clowns smoking?

The '85 Bears would destroy the '89 49ers. Joe Montana would have been left as a bloody heap found beneath Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, Steve McMichael, and William Perry.

Jerry Rice and John Taylor would be decapitated by Gary Fencik and Dave Duerson.

Roger Craig? Please.

His knees would be hitting his chest all right... as he turned around ran away from Otis Wilson, Wilbur Marshall, and Mike Singletary.

For actual numbers to back it up, if you're into that kind thing, the Bears averaged more points a game than the Niners (28.5 to 27.6), allowed less points (12.4 to 15.8), played a tougher schedule (Opp. Win % .473 to .452), had a better record against +.500 teams (7-1 to 7-2), allowed only 10 points in the entire postseason, and had a better record (18-1 to 17-2).

So the Bears have better numbers in all the ones used in Page 2's poll, yet they are ranked beneath them.

Damn that Katrina sign!!!
