Chris Myers Has Advice for Ian Johnson

Just because Chris Myers ruined the surprise for him on Monday night, that doesn't mean he doesn't have any thoughts on Ian Johnson's proposal to his girlfriend after scoring the game winning 2-point conversion for Boise State.

In an article in the USA Today, Myers tries to explain what happened:

Myers thought he heard Johnson, who'd made the winning score, tell him something about proposing. "I thought, 'I hope not to me,' and told him he could do it after the (on-air) interview," Myers said Tuesday. "Or, I thought maybe he'd propose that college football get a playoff system."

No, Johnson wanted to propose marriage to Chrissy Popadics, a Boise cheerleader. "She ran over," Myers says. "I didn't know what was going on. It's like it was one of those bad scripted shows on Fox." But, as Johnson got down on one knee, it wasn't. Says Myers: "She was shocked. They're telling me in my earpiece to wrap, but I'm not leaving this. So they stayed on the shot when their lips locked."
Our question is this. Instead of announcing that you're gonna let him go cuz he's going to propose to his girlfriend, just ask him something like "Well, what are you going to do next?" or "How do you plan to celebrate this win?"

It's pretty easy.

We can probably add this to the growing list of reasons why sideline reporters not named Erin Andrews should not exist. Get rid of them. They're pointless and generally do nothing but disrupt the flow of a broadcast. That and women like Andrea Kramer, Holly Rowe, and Lesley Visser should not have to be viewed by anyone in HDTV. It's criminally unfair.

Back to Myers though, he thought the proposal was a great moment to catch on live television, but he questioned Ian's thought process behind it.

"I'm all for marriage. But it's kind of rushing things. Plus, his stock had just gone up. And there are other cheerleaders."
He's got a pretty good point. There are tons of other cheerleaders. There's Megan from the USC Song Girls, and then there's always this lovely lass from the Louisville cheerleading squad.

Ballhype: hype it up!

yeah, i'll bet he's all for marriage. and i'll bet he's a load of fun in the hotel bars when he's travelling.

"hey, wanna drink? i'm chris. i'm famous... all right, i'm well known... seriously, ask someone, they'll tell you...LOOK, GOD DAMMIT, HERE'S MY RESUME!"

if only your stock was a little higher, chris.
