The NFL is Full of Class Acts
We all know about the CincinnAttica Bengals and their run-ins with the law, and of course there's Tank Johnson's gun collection and antsy body guard. Can't forget about T.O. (seriously you can't, they never stop talking about him) and his twisted brand of foreplay, either.
The NFL is nothing but class acts through and through. Sure, we wonder why it is that Carmelo Anthony punches a guy in the face during a game and he's considered a "thug," yet NFL players break the law at a rate which makes politicians blush, and their image remains generally clean.
Then we remember the fact that football helmets and pads cover up a lot of black skin and tattoos, and we realize what the difference is.
But don't worry, we're not going to get into a big race debate here. We aren't smart enough to begin to pretend we have any real idea what we're talking about. (For further evidence of our unsmartness, read every entry ever posted on this blog.) All this babbling was just an entirely too long intro to the latest NFL player to have legal troubles post.
St. Louis Rams rookie tight end Dominique Byrd has been hit with a civil suit from a man he attacked on December 4th.
The suit seeks compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages.Supposedly Derouchie suffered "serious, permanent, and disfiguring" cuts to his face.
Byrd also faces criminal charges for the alleged early-morning incident at the Pepper Lounge at 2005 Locust Street. He was charged Dec. 4 with two felonies, second-degree assault and armed criminal action, for the alleged assault on (Jason)DeRouchie and misdemeanor third-degree assault for allegedly grabbing a woman's buttocks.
According to the charging documents, Byrd and DeRouchie exchanged words after Byrd grabbed the woman. Byrd then smashed a cocktail glass across DeRouchie's face, prosecutors say. Police at the time said DeRouchie was taken to the hospital for stitches but Byrd declined treatment for cuts on his hand.
Personally we just love the fact this all started with Byrd grabbing some booty. That's not exactly smooth. We've always preferred to just sneak up behind a girl, grab her hips, and dry hump her like there is no tomorrow.
It hasn't worked yet, but we'll be damned if we can't say we're persistent.
