Baseball Tonight 8-29-06

For Papi to watch from his hospital room.

  • New York Yankees (77-52 1st AL East Chien-Ming Wang 15-5 3.81) vs. Detroit Tigers (82-49 1st AL Central Nate Robertson 11-10 4.10)-Possible preview of the ALCS this week in the Bronx. It's a battle of two pitchers heading in opposite directions. Wang is 7-1 with a 3.06 ERA in his last 9 starts, while Robertson is 3-7 with a 5.50 ERA in his last 10. The Tigers have been struggling as of late, and lost 3 of 4 to the Yankees in Detroit earlier this season. I'm taking the Yankees tonight, causing the Tigers AL Central lead to shrink even further and Tiger fans to sleep even less tonight. (7:05PM Est.)
  • St. Louis Cardinals (69-60 1st NL Central Mark Mulder 6-6 6.77) vs. Florida Marlins (64-66 3rd NL East Scott Olsen 10-7 4.42)-The Marlins have won 8 in a row and are within two games of Cincinnati for the wild card in the National League. The Cardinals are coming off a three game sweep of the Cubs but send Mark Mulder to the mound. In his last two starts Mulder has given up around 412 runs. Oh, and he has a career ERA of 10.24 against the Fish in his career. I'm taking the Marlins tonight. (8:10PM Est.)
  • Seattle Mariners (62-69 4th AL West Jarrod Washburn 7-12 4.37) vs. Los Angeles Angels (69-63 2nd AL West Jered Weaver 9-1 1.92)-The Mariners finally ended their 20 game losing streak against divisional opponents by beating the Angels 2-0 last night! Tonight we witness a battle between two pitchers both determined to prove that they have their first name spelled the right way. I half expect Subway Jared to run out of the crowd and choke both of them with 6-inch Subway subs. As far as who's going to win the actual game, let's just say it's spelled J-E-R-E-D. Angels win tonight. (10:05PM Est.)
Yesterday: 2-1 (W-Athletics Dodgers L-Padres)

Season: 63-54
