Baseball Tonight 8-22-06

Two comeback victories and a bloody nose later, I finally got back to my winning ways last night. Tonight I try to keep the momentum going.

  • Toronto Blue Jays (66-59 3rd AL East A.J. Burnett 5-5 4.29) vs. Oakland Athletics (71-54 1st AL West Brad Halsey 3-3 4.50)-Well, nothing exciting happened in last night's game between these two. After Toronto jumped out to an 8-0, an Oakland comeback ignited a fight between Ted "You can't take me out of this game! I'm the Juggernaut bitch!" Lilly and his manager John Gibbons. Do you think that everytime Gibbons goes to the mound to take out a pitcher they'll just punch him in the face and stay in the game? I hope so. Anyway, the Blue Jays win tonight's game unless they get too busy wrestling with their manager. (7:07PM Est.)
  • Chicago Cubs (53-71 5th NL Central Ryan O'Malley 0-0 0.00) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (62-62 2nd NL East Jamie Moyer 6-12 4.39)-Well we know Aaron Rowand won't be in the lineup for the Phillies tonight, so the ivy walls of Wrigley and the Phillies middle infielders have nothing to fear. Jamie Moyer will make his debut for the Phillies tonight after being acquired to help the team make a postseason push. The Cubs send out Ryan O'Malley, a left hander who was very impressive throwing eight shutout innings against the Astros last week. Of course, the Astros don't have Ryan Howard. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that O'Malley doesn't experience the same kind of success tonight, and he shouldn't want to. If he does throw another shutout his arm is destined to break into a million little pieces, cuz after all, he is a Cubs pitcher. (8:05PM Est.)
  • Los Angeles Angels (66-59 2nd AL West Joe Saunders 4-1 3.64) vs. Boston Red Sox (69-55 2nd AL East Kyle Snyder 3-2 6.35)-The Red Sox look to regroup from their embarrasing five game sweep at Fenway to the Yankees this weekend. What better way to do that than by sending a former Royal with an ERA over 6 to the mound? The Red Sox are sinking fast thanks to their pitching staff's recent inability to get anybody out. Look for their 6th straight loss tonight as the Angels win this one big. (10:05PM Est.)

Yesterday: 2-1 (W-Athletics Reds L-Dodgers)

Season: 52-47
