Did you know that Ortiz is Spanish for "Game over man! Game over!"
On Saturday afternoon Ortiz had a walk off game winning single against the Angels. It's gotten to the point that if Ortiz is at the plate with the game on the line, and that game is on national television (Saturday was on FOX, Monday on ESPN) the odds of Papi winning the game are 99.99999999%.
When the game is only on local television, the number drops to 98%.
He has 5 game winning hits this year, and 12 in only four seasons in Boston. There is no greater clutch hitter in baseball.
Ortiz's walk off tonight was his second home run of the game, he had a solo shot in the third. David will enter August with 37 HR and 105 RBI.
Do you think this ever gets old? I'll tell you. No...no it doesn't.
He's on pace to hit 58 HR with 163 RBI. Will he be the first DH to win the MVP award? I've long been of the thought that DH's shouldn't win MVP's because all they do is hit. Papi though is proving to be the exception to the rule.
Right now if I had a vote, and I don't (bastards!), I would cast it for Big Papi.
