Travis Hafner May Need Shoulder Surgery

For a few years between 2004 and 2006, Travis Hafner was one of the most feared hitters in the American League. They were the only three years in his career in which he hit over .300 in a season, and he averaged 34 home runs and 111 RBI. Over the last two seasons, however, Pronk has been relatively useless to the Cleveland Indians.

Shoulder problems this season caused Hafner to spend the overwhelming majority of the season on the disabled list...

Carlos Marmol Injured in a Car Accident

Could this week get any better for the Chicago Cubs? I mean, they got the snot beat out of them by the Dodgers in the first round of the playoffs, getting swept for the second straight year. It was a devastating blow to Cubs fans all over, as I have a few friends who have slipped into catatonic states over it, and has even caused some to put their loyalty up for auction.

Of course, if whoring yourself out isn't your style, you could always just do what everybody else is and blame Kosuke Fukudome. It can't be that the Dodgers were just the better team, after all, there has to be something to blame...

Joe Saunders Passed His Kidney Stone

As I told you about the other day, Angels pitcher Joe Saunders has been having a rough go of things lately. The poor guy has had to miss nearly a full week of action thanks to complications from a kidney stone. Those complications being pain. Horrible, horrible pain.

Well if you were in downtown Seattle on Wednesday morning, you probably heard screams emanating from a hotel room...

Those Screams You Hear Are Joe Saunders'

I'm not afraid of a lot of things, but I do have my fears. Right now my biggest fear in life is seeing Ozzie Guillen summoning a pitcher from his bullpen with anything less than a ten run lead. Still, one thing I've never had to deal with but I've always feared is the idea of getting a kidney stone. Going off of stories I've heard from people who have had them, and just the general idea that a little pebble could rip through my ... yeah, I don't even want to type it because it already hurts.

Which is why I'm happy I'm not Angels starter Joe Saunders at the moment...

Chone Figgins to Have His Elbow Examined

The best thing about the Angels clinching the AL West so early is that it gives the team plenty of time to set things up for the postseason. They can line up their starting rotation anyway they like it, and they also have time to let their players rest and recover from various injuries. Considering how many injuries the Angels have, they need as much time as they can get.

If only those players would stop getting hurt...

Carlos Quentin Has Cast Removed

The Chicago White Sox have gained a little breathing room in the AL Central standings this week (thank you, Cleveland) opening their lead to two and a half games over the Minnesota Twins. They've also gotten some good news on the injury front, as what looked like a season ending knee injury to Paul Konerko a week ago turned out to be a mild sprain, and Paulie is already back in the Sox lineup.

Of course, Konerko may not be the only member of the team who could be coming back from an injury that looked like it was going to end a season...

Percy Harvin is Ready to Be 'Cut Loose'

The Florida Gators are off to another good start this season, winning their first two games in rather impressive fashion, and doing so despite the fact that Percy Harvin hasn't been around to contribute much thanks to heel surgery. Now the Gators are preparing to open their conference schedule against the rival Tennessee Volunteers, and for all those Vols fans out there who had been hoping Harvin would still be limited by his heel, I've got some bad news for you.

Percy is feeling better than ever...

The White Sox Are Dropping Like Flies

September has not been very kind to the Chicago White Sox thus far. They've lost five of their eight games in the month, but the Twins haven't been playing much better, so they still hold on to a tenuous one game lead in the AL Central. It's a lead that is getting harder to hold onto everyday.

First the Sox lost Joe Crede again, probably for the season, with inflammation in his troublesome back, and then the team received a swift kick to the stomach when they found out they'd also be without Carlos Quentin for the season. Now, because things just aren't going bad enough...

Carlos Quentin's Season Could Be Over

Original version of this article read as such: FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK (kills self)

Since it's September, that means it's a time of panic in Chicago. Cubs fans are dealing with a five-game losing streak, and the thoughts of another late season collapse have entered their fragile psyches. Evidence of this can be seen in the fan's reactions to the recent fears that Carlos Zambrano might be lost for the year.

Well, while that fear has been put to bed, there's another one that's all ready to take it's place. Except this time, it's located on the south side of the city...

Jason Giambi Got Beat Up By a Door

When Jason Giambi showed up at Tropicana Field on Wednesday night, his teammates and the media noticed a gash by his right eye. His eyelid was bruised and swollen, and he looked like he'd just stepped out of a boxing ring after getting beat up for twelve rounds.

So did Jason have a run-in at one of the finer drinking establishments in Tampa the night before? No, as it turns out, the only run-in the Giambino had was with the bathroom door in his hotel room...

Cubs Fans Can Start Panicking Now

It's the worst time of the year to be a Cubs fan right now, for the calendar has finally turned over to September, and that means it's time for the Cubs to collapse. So here we are on September 4th, and the Cubs have lost their last five games, but luckily for them the Brewers haven't gained any ground on them in the process.

That's the end of the good news, though...

Ozzie Guillen Thinks Joe Crede's Done

With both the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins doing everything in their power not to win the AL Central right now - both teams are currently playing Our Bullpen Is Worse Than Your Bullpen - the White Sox had been hoping that the return of a healthy Joe Crede could be the boost they needed down the stretch.

Well, apparently those hopes have been dashed because Crede had to leave last night's White Sox loss in the sixth inning...

Koyie Hill Has a Bionic Hand

It's been a pretty remarkable season for the Chicago Cubs, as they currently own the best record in baseball and are a serious threat to end one hundred years of futility and win the World Series this October. Still, even with all the things the Cubs are doing in 2008, none of it matches what Koyie Hill has done.

The Cubs called Hill up to the club yesterday as part of the September call ups, but the fact that Hill is still even playing baseball is a miracle. After all, not many people return to the game after cutting off three fingers and a thumb in a table saw accident...

Todd Jones Has Probably Thrown His Last Pitch In The Major Leagues

The Detroit Tigers don't have much left to play for this season other now that they've fallen to fourth place in the AL Central, so really, the only goal they have is to finish the season without embarrassing themselves. Well, that and try to catch the red hot Cleveland Indians (see, CC Sabathia and Paul Byrd were only holding them back) and reclaim third place.

They won't have Todd Jones around to help them...

Ian Kinsler's Groin May Cost Him The Season

While Josh Hamilton gets most of the publicity when it comes to the Texas Rangers, that doesn't mean he's the only player on the team having an MVP-caliber season. Let's not forget about the team's second baseman, Ian Kinsler, who is currently hitting .319/.375/.517 with 18 homers and 71 RBI.

Unfortunately for the Rangers and Ian, his numbers probably aren't going to change. Kinsler had to leave the Rangers game on Sunday with a sore left groin, but as it turns out, it's probably a sports hernia (as opposed to a business hernia, or the much more devastating agriculture hernia...

Tom Glavine's Career May Be Over

On Thursday of last week, Tom Glavine returned to the mound for the Atlanta Braves for the first time since June 10th. Things didn't go very well, as the 300-game winner gave up seven runs in four innings, and still felt pain in his elbow after the game. It's because of this pain in his elbow that we now know Glavine has pitched his last game in 2008, as he's going to be shut down for the season.

The real question is, will Thursday's start against the Cubs be the last of Tommy's career...

Joel Zumaya's Season Is Likely Over

On Wednesday morning I wrote about Tigers manager Jim Leyland saying he wasn't sure when he was going to use Joel Zumaya again. Going off of what he'd been seeing from Zoom while on the mound, Leyland felt that something had to be wrong with flame-throwing reliever.

Well maybe Jimmy should start up a psychic hotline, because it turns out his fears for Zumaya were dead on...

Joel Zumaya Could Be Out Awhile

While the Tigers learned something new about Gary Sheffield on Tuesday - that he hits really well when he's angry about being placed on waivers - they also saw something they've known about for a while. Their bullpen sucks. After Sheffield's two home runs helped get a lead for the Tigers, the Detroit bullpen came in and blew the game like they normally do.

Tuesday's goat was Joel Zumaya, who walked three Blue Jays and gave up the game-winning runs without recording an out, all to the chorus of boos from the hometown crowd. As a result, Jim Leyland doesn't plan on using Zumaya again anytime soon, but it's not because of his performance...

Cinderella's Glass Slipper Just Broke

Even though a lot of people would agree that the Tampa Bay Rays are a very good team this year, there have still been a lot of doubters out there who don't think they'll be able to hold off the Boston Red Sox all season. Those doubters have gotten a lot louder in the last few days as things are starting to fall apart in Tampa.

First the Rays were dealt the blow that they'd likely be without Carl Crawford for six to eight weeks (also called the season), and things didn't get much better yesterday afternoon. That's when the team found out they were going to be without probable Rookie of the Year Evan Longoria for a while as well...
