The NCAA Hates You And Your Laptop
I am a sports blogger. It's what I do. It's a pretty cool job to have, and it comes with the same kind of public admiration as a doctor or a firefighter. What I do helps the world.
Still, even as we continue to make the world a better place for all, some people still do not appreciate me or my kind.
Take, for instance, the NCAA.
Brian Bennett is a sports writer for the Louisville Courier-Journal who's blogging about the University of Louisville's march to the College World Series for the paper's web site, live from the games in real time. That's right, evil bloggers! The NCAA doesn't want you anywhere near their games, reporting to people what's going on.
Check that. He was blogging live from the games. Now he's gone, as the NCAA has kicked him out. At 7:06 p.m., Bennett posted the following:
I have been ejected from U of L's Super Regional game against Oklahoma State by the NCAA for blogging live during the event. I won't be providing any more live updates.
If they want to know what's going on, they can watch it on TV!
What?
It's not televised?
Then they can listen to it on their radio.
The campus radio station doesn't come in in most areas?
Oh.
Well, I don't know what to tell you. Looks like you can just go back to not caring about college baseball.
Apparently the NCAA has a clause in it's radio/internet policy that states "Live description of any game in progress is prohibited." No, it doesn't make any sense to me either, but this is the NCAA after all.
They aren't in it to make sense, they're in it to make money.
