Not many people gave the Michigan State Spartans a chance to win the Alamo Bowl considering they were 14 players down in San Antonio, but they played Texas Tech the best they could before finally running out of ammo in the fourth quarter and falling 41-31. What was most disappointing about the game was that the Spartans had a good chance to win the game except for some conservative play-calling down the stretch.
The Spartans secondary had problems stopping Texas Tech’s passing attack all night, but for every touchdown they gave up, the Spartans offense would respond thanks to some unconventional play-calling. There was the fake field goal with the Spartans trailing 27-21 in the fourth quarter in which punter Aaron Bates hit Charlie Gantt for an 18-yard reception for a first down. On the very next play, Keshawn Martin found Blair White in the end zone for a touchdown that gave Michigan State a 28-27 lead...
