The Tyrus Thomas Saga Takes Another Turn

I've been suspect of Tyrus Thomas and his flu all week. To be blunt, I'm of the opinion that Thomas is full of shit when he says he's sick. I don't think it's a coincidence that after complaining about not getting minutes in the fourth quarter and not having his contract extended, Tyrus all of a sudden felt under the weather.

He sees the writing on the wall: The team's drafting of Taj Gibson and not extending him means he's no longer seen as a piece of the future with the Bulls. And he's feeling sorry for himself. Considering all that I've heard about Tyrus' level of maturity from people who actually deal with him on a regular basis, this isn't too far-fetched a theory.

So I'm not surprised at all to find out that now that he's over his little bout with the "flu," Tyrus hurt himself while working out at the Berto Center on Friday morning.

Tyrus Thomas injured himself during the Chicago Bulls practice Friday afternoon at the Berto Center. The fourth-year forward hurt his left arm while weightlifting.

"Tyrus hurt himself in the weight room a little bit, so he's going to get an x-ray," Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Hopefully everything's fine. I'm not even exactly sure how he got hurt yet. He kind of tweaked his arm a little bit and he's getting an x-ray. He's pretty sore. Hopefully, he's fine.

"I think he was doing some type of pull-up or whatever," Del Negro said. "He kind of injured his arm a little bit. It's just unfortunate."
Reading between the lines of what Del Negro had to say about the injury, and I think he is rather suspicious of Thomas' injury himself. "I'm not even exactly sure how he got hurt" and "He kind of tweaked his arm a little bit." Thomas "kind of injured his arm."

Doesn't sound too confident in the severity of this injury, does he?

I have a feeling Tyrus is going to have a lot of "kind of" injuries this season as he sulks his way through the final year of his contract in Chicago. Then, when he gets an offer from some other team that sees all the talent he has but hasn't dealt with his fragile ego on a daily basis, the Bulls will let him walk.

That or maybe they work a trade before the season is over. Which really is a shame, because I've always been enamored with Thomas' raw skills on the basketball court, but he's never been a consistent player since coming to the Bulls.

I don't think I'm alone when I say I wish that draft day trade that brought Thomas to Chicago for LaMarcus Aldridge never happened.

Ballhype: hype it up!

I've been with you on that bandwagon for 2 years.
