Least Impressive 24-Point Victory EVER
You know, yesterday's Bears game against the Browns was supposed to cleanse the palate of the nasty taste in our mouths following last week's disaster against the Bengals. Now, while the 30-6 win looks good in a box score or just on the ticker at the bottom of your television screen, anybody who actually watched the Bears game yesterday knows better.
Have you ever seen a team look as bad as the Bears did while winning by 24 points?
The Bears offensive line was horrible yet again, even with Josh Beekman taking over for Frank Ohmygodhesucks, so don't look at the 170 yards the Bears rushed for against Cleveland and think things are cured. The truth is if you take away Garrett Wolfe's 36-yard run the Bears averaged only 3.7 yards per carry on Sunday.
Matt Forte had 90 yards and two touchdowns, but he needed 26 carries to get there, and he probably should have had four touchdowns. The Bears had a few opportunities to put touchdowns on the board early, but thanks to the line playing like a bunch of grandmas against the Browns defensive line, they had to settle for field goals everytime.
The truth is that the Bears leading rusher on the afternoon was Jay Cutler as he generally had to scramble for 10 yards every time he dropped back to pass to dodge the oncoming pass rush.
If there was any good news from the game it was that the defense had it's best game in a while, forcing five turnovers and holding the Browns to only 191 yards of offense, but it was the Browns. Derek Anderson is their starting quarterback. Derek. Anderson.
So while picking up a win was nice, and they all count the same in the NFL, you can't exactly be pleased with what you saw on Sunday at Soldier Field. I'll take the win, but the Bears won't be getting many more if they keep playing like that for the rest of the season.
And given the fact that they can't replace the entire offensive line before next Sunday's game against the Cardinals, I have a feeling they will.
