Charlie Weis Has Been Fired

In what comes as some of the least shocking news to anyone who follows the world of Notre Dame, college football, or this blog, Charlie Weis has been fired by the University of Notre Dame according to the New York Daily News.
Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News.

AD Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.

“We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”

“We have established an evaluation process for all of our athletic programs that, in the end, results in a recommendation from Jack to me,” Notre Dame president Father John Jenkins said. “I accepted Jack’s decision and look forward to working with him on selecting a new head football coach who is the very best choice possible for the University and especially for our student-athletes.

“I am most appreciative to Coach Weis for his service to Notre Dame and our community. He and his family have my prayers and best wishes.”

Although I'm not sorry to see Weis get fired right now, I'm somewhat saddened as well.

I've been reporting here for days that Bob Stoops will replace Weis, but that doesn't mean I ever wanted this day to come. I was one of the many believers when Charlie left the New England Patriots for South Bend five years ago.

Unfortunately, the immediate success Weis experienced when taking over the program took a complete u-turn in recent years, as the Irish have gone 16-21 in the last three seasons since Brady Quinn and company left town.

Of course, now that Weis has officially been fired, may the coaching rumors really start heating up.

Oh, and in one last tidbit of information concerning Jimmy Clausen, a source within the football program reported that Clausen has already packed up his locker and that it's "pretty much empty." So it looks like Charlie won't be the only person not back in South Bend next season.

Something tells me the loss of Clausen will sting more.

Ballhype: hype it up!

After watching the way Clausen mouthed off to anyone and everyone on Saturday night, I don't know if I'm going to be that sad to see him go.

Not excited to have an inexperienced quarterback with a reconstructed knee and two freshman back there, but maybe they can keep the egos in check a little bit.

The new and improved me is back reading and commenting on this "reporting" site... What is with the self promotion Panger?!? That is only done by Mr. Fornelli!

Another one bites the dust...

I defend my honor, sir! As someone who was "pooh poohed" when I wrote that story two years ago, I have patiently waited to say, "So fucking there!"

My day has come.

So, self promotion? Eh. Sweet, sweet self congratulation? Oh, yeah....
