How About That Bears Game?

I work on Sunday nights, and have for years.  In the past however, Bears games were generally played at noon so I always had a chance to watch them before going into work.  Then Jay Cutler came to town, and now there's apparently a new rule that says the Bears can't play before 3pm against anybody who managed more than 3 wins the season before.

So a few weeks ago when the NFL announced that the Bears/Bengals game was being switched from a noon start to 3pm, I was ticked off.  Watching the game on DVR after work just isn't the same, especially when you already know the outcome.

Well, after seeing part of yesterday's game -- I didn't bother with the second half -- I'd like to apologize to the NFL for cursing them after they switched the start time.  Turns out they were doing me a favor because my television may not have survived had I been watching live.

I really don't have much to say about the game.  I mean, what can you say really?  The Bears were embarrassed out there.  Picked apart like I've never seen them before.  To make matters worse, Cedric Benson completely ran through his former team, and had a career day.

Though to be honest, seeing Benson run that way made me feel somewhat better as well, because it's nice to see the guy I thought the Bears would be getting when they drafted him out of Texas.  I told people that we had something special coming our way, and well, we all saw how Cedric's time in Chicago worked out.

I'd have rather been vindicated while Benson was wearing a Bears uniform, but I'll take what I can get.

The thing that stood out to me in this game was the way Cincinnati's offensive line dominated the Bears defensive line, and it's something I saw coming.  The Bengals have a HUGE line.  The Bears, they have a small defensive line that relies on speed.

They tend to get swallowed up by lines the size of Cincinnati's, which is why we see them struggle so much against teams like the Vikings as well.  Throw in some injuries up front for the Bears, and the rotation was not there to keep legs fresh.  Which is why you saw absolutely no penetration from the Bears front four.

Which is why Benson was able to run all over.

Which is why Bengals receivers had all the time they needed to find the soft spots in the Bears Cover-2 scheme.

If there's any good news it's that the Bears return home next week to take on the Cleveland Browns -- at noon of course -- and the Browns are exactly the type of team you want to see after being destroyed.
