Morning Wood

Mark DeRosa found true love in Soriano's armpit that night....

Chicago Cubs 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 1 10 inn

I just checked the Soriano Feelings Meter, and yep, Cubs fans love him again. The Cubs completed a sweep of the Dodgers on Wednesday night when the guy Cubs fans love to hate and then love and then hate and then love and then hate and then love singled home Mike Fontenot in the 10th inning to finish the game.

"He has that ability just to stay up and keep on trucking, performing," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "I was happy for him. A big clutch hit and it got us the win."

The Cubs had a chance to win in the 9th after loading the bases with one out, but they were only able to plate one run on Geovany Soto's sac fly.

Carlos Zambrano lasted 8 innings for the Cubs, allowing only one run, but he did have trouble with his command as he walked four Dodgers. He did keep the Cubs in the game throughout, though, even if he doesn't get credit for the win.

Chicago White Sox 6 Cleveland Indians 5

My campaign to help get Carlos Quentin into the All-Star game has now gained steam nationally, as the USA Today is even picking up on it, but I think I shall soon have to change the focus of the movement from the All-Star game to MVP.

CQ was only 1-for-4 at the plate on Wednesday, but he drove in three big runs for the White Sox. He gave the Sox a 3-2 lead in the 5th with a sac fly right after A.J. Pierzynski tied the game with a fielder's choice. Then, after the Indians scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead, CQ got it back for the Sox one more time.

After A.J. Pierzynski doubled home Alexei Ramirez to make it 5-4, Quentin doubled both A.J. and Orlando Cabrera home to give the Sox a 6-5 lead they never relinquished.

"A lot of guys got big hits today," Quentin said. "It was a battle. We scored and they came back at us. We were fortunate today. We'll take it."

Bobby Jenks made things pretty interesting in the 9th inning, as Cleveland got runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, but Bobby got both Franklin Gutierrez and Victor Martinez to pop-up to end the game.

The win improved the Sox' record against their division to 14-8, and it's their 1,000th victory against the Cleveland Indians. Not all this season, of course.
