Frank Thomas' Next Stop: The Joliet Jackhammers?
It's been a few days since the Toronto Blue Jays dropped Frank Thomas like a bad habit because they didn't want to pay him the money they promised him if he made 1,000 at bats with the team over two years (This is not a new phenomenon in Toronto), and the Big Hurt is still looking for a job.
Of course, Frank's options are somewhat limited seeing as how he can't really play first base anymore (And some will tell you he never could) so nobody from the National League is going to make an offer. Which leaves the 14 teams in the American League, and the Mariners, Rangers, Rays, and Royals are four of the most sensible destinations, with a possible return to Oakland as well.
But what if those teams aren't appealing enough for Frank? What if he wants to come back home to Chicago? Well, the White Sox have no spot for him, and of course neither do the Cubs, so what's Frank to do?
The Joliet JackHammers have offered former Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas a contract for their upcoming 2008 season. Thomas can sign for the JackHammers and be one of the team’s four “veterans” on their roster. He will receive a monthly salary in addition to a free apartment. The JackHammers home opener is Friday May 23rd at 7:05pm against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Silver Cross Field.Free apartment!? In Joliet!? How can you pass that up!? Plus the Jackhammers are willing to give Frank his very own seat on the team's charter bus.
“We need to get Frank back to Chicago where the fans love him,” said JackHammers Executive Vice President/General Manager, Kelly Sufka. “Frank will get the regular playing time he needs with no time spent on the bench. We’ll work to get him as many at-bats as possible.
He'd be stupid not to take this deal. (Not really)

Unfortunately, Utilities are not provided with the apartment. On the plus side, you live next Pete Rose Jr!
Hopefully it's within walking distance of the Joliet Chicken Shack, cause I hear that's a good place for fish.
