Cubs 2008 Failures to Be Documented in Moving Picture Form

In this 100 year drought the Cubs find themselves, there have been many seasons the team and its fans would probably prefer to forget all about. While it's still March, most Cubs fans are awash in their annual tradition of thinking the Cubs have a shot at ending it all and winning the World Series this season.

They're not going to, but just try telling a Cubs fan that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not just senselessly bashing the team here. I'll fully admit that the Cubs are a far better team than my White Sox this year, and that they'll probably win the division, but they're not going to win the World Series.

So come October when Cubs fans are having their hearts broken again, while they'll probably want to put the past behind them and look towards 2009, they're not going to be able to.

All those tears shall be caught on film this year.

A documentary on the '08 Cubs with the working title "We Believe" has begun production, and the Oscar buzz is unmistakable. According to Mark DeRosa, all the Cubs need is to write a happy ending, like, say, end the 100-year drought.

"If we win the World Series this year, it'll probably win an Oscar," Mark DeRosa said. "I'll get to walk the red carpet. We're going to Sundance!"

The Cubs may or may not get to Hollywood, but Hollywood definitely has discovered the Cubs. Producer/director John Scheinfeld, whose most recent documentary was "The U.S. vs. John Lennon," approached Cubs management last year to gauge interest in a project about the franchise and its relationship to Chicago.
While the working title is currently "We Believe," odds are that will be changed to "We're In Denial!" by the time the film receives it's final edits. Well, unless Sam Zell sells the naming rights, anyway.

Ballhype: hype it up!
