Damn it Tom! Don't tell me off on YOUR site -- come to ours to call me a moron! :-)
Besides -- Fields will cost even more than Crede when his contract does expire.
Crede now: 3 yrs, $16 mil (with an option for a 4th year).
Fields in three years when his contract is up: $10/year.
It'll even out.
Maybe, but Fields has a better shot at being a consistent 30+ homer guy, and with Konerko, Thome, and Dye not getting any younger, we'll need his power bat.
And though I love Joe's defense, his style of play is never going to be good for his back, and I'm not sure it's going to ever go away.
There is no shortage of "power" hitters in the league. As a matter of fact, I despise the homer. I would trade Paul Konerko for Jose Reyes any day of the week.
A home run is hit or miss. A single can be a double, and the pain doesn't end there for the pitching staff.
Fields aside, I believe that Joe has at LEAST three more years of top-notch play in him. He's not even 30! His back will probably be an issue like Jim Miller's neck was an issue -- but Miller was still a vital part of the team.
