The Basketball Diaries

Toronto Raptors 93 Chicago Bulls 78

So Luol Deng returned to action on Sunday after missing the last three games with a bad back. Too bad it didn't make a damn difference and the Bulls lost again. The Bulls actually had a 33-26 lead after the first quarter, but generally when you follow up a 33 point quarter with an 11 point quarter, bad things happen. Jose Calderon, who was filling in for the injured T.J. Ford, led the Raptors with 19 points, but it was some dude named Jamario Moon who really killed the Bulls. He had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 blocks. The Bulls are now 2-10, and I'm still waiting for things to get better. Also, what was with the early starts this weekend? On Saturday the game against the Knicks started at noon local time, and Sunday's game was at 11AM. What the hell is that about? I'm hardly out of bed and still scratching myself, and the Bulls are already down 10 points. It's a rather craptastic way to start one's day.

Utah Jazz 103 Detroit Pistons 93

Luckily for me, I'm also a Jazz fan thanks to Deron Williams. Unlike the Bulls, the Jazz don't suck, so it works out pretty well for me. Deron had been playing lately with a toe injury, but he was 100% on Sunday, and it showed on the court. Williams had 21 points and 14 assists, a lot of which went to Carlos Boozer who finished with 36 points of his own and 11 rebounds. "There's a lot more of this to come," Boozer said. "When D and I are both 100 percent, we're going to be really tough to beat." The Pistons had a very Bulls-like 2nd and 3rd quarters, scoring only 35 points during that span, and they dug themselves a hole they just couldn't get out of.
