Morning Wood - At the Doorstep

Chicago White Sox 7 Cleveland Indians 4

Damn you, Jim Thome, you're singlehandedly wrecking my efforts to suppress all memories of the 2007 White Sox season. The slugger hit his 499th career homer and is one tater away from becoming the 23rd player in MLB history to reach 500. "You could feel the excitement in the dugout. The guys were getting excited," said Thome. "It's just a matter of going out and not really thinking about it, but it's tough." Thome said he's going to announce a big reward for the fan who catches and returns to him Home Run Ball Number 500, which Thome will then send to Cooperstown. Fair warning, Jim: Unless the reward includes Joe Crede, a case of strawberry jam and no witnesses for 24 hours, I'm keeping it.

Chicago Cubs 3 Houston Astros 2

I had written something witty about this game but Blogspot ate it and I'm too annoyed to replicate it. In brief, Cub pitcher Rich Hill came through again, getting his fifth win in six starts, Ryan Dempster didn't fuck up, and Milwaukee did. Which means we're tied for first again.
