Jamie Mottram Is Going To Yahoo!
When I checked my email last night and saw a message titled "Resignation Announcement" from my boss at FanHouse, Jamie Mottram, I figured it was a heads up on some manager or someone resigning.
When I opened it and read that it was Jamie who was resigning from his post at FanHouse, I was shocked. I immediately began texting other FanHousers like the Postmen and Matt Watson to share the news and see if they had any idea what was going on.
We came up with all sorts of reasons for Jamie's departure. AOL is moving their offices to New York, and Mottram's such a DC guy, he didn't want to go. He's starting a career in porn. He's doing television, etc.
Well, this morning we all found out why the boss man is leaving on Sports Business Daily. If you don't have access to the link, here's what it says.
Yahoo! Sports has hired Jamie Mottram, currently editor of AOL's Fanhouse blog network, as its Senior Editor of Blogs & Community, continuing an extended run of hires for the online outlet. Mottram, who will start next month and report to Executive Editor Dave Morgan, will not replicate Fanhouse in total but seek to develop a sports social media area for the portal. Mottram also authors the Misterirrelevant.com blog with his brother Chris. Morgan: "We have an audience and community that is desperate to interact with each other, and we really haven't had a full platform to do that. So having Jamie is a really important step in that direction for us. It's not going to happen overnight, but over the next year, you'll see us be much more active and engaged with regard to social media."As for the future of FanHouse, nothing's going to change. John Ness will be more than capable of running the asylum.
As far as Jamie goes, I would like to wish him well over at Yahoo!, and I know he'll be fine. I'd also like to publicly thank him for giving a no-talent hack such as myself a chance to prove how talentless I am to a much larger audience.
Oh, and for paying me to do it.
I know you won't be going anywhere, but I'll miss you, brah. Good luck.
