Whisenhunt Practices Safe Sacks
When you read stories about teambuilding outings gone wrong - paintball shots to the groin, water slide park mishaps - can you blame Arizona Cardinals' head coach Ken Whisenhunt for wanting a a safer venue for his offfield teambuilding?
He took his boys to the movies.
The movie outing was Whisenhunt's way of rewarding his players for their hard work and to foster a little bit of camaraderie. It's something Whisenhunt learned in Pittsburgh when he worked for Bill Cowher.I can just picture it.
"Any time these guys are spending time together, outside of just on the football field, I think it builds that chemistry," he said. "When you do something like this, you got offensive guys, defensive guys, special-teams guys all sitting inter-mixed in auditoriums. To me, that's important.
Players had their choice of three movies: The Bourne Ultimatum, Transformers and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
"All in favor of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, raise your hands.... Matt, get your hands out of your shorts.... yes, Anquan, you can have a popcorn and soda...okay, looks like it's the Bourne Ultimatum. Remember, for your protection, please wear your helmets on the bus. And a quick announcement, after the movie, we meet back here for lanyard making... No, Matt, you can't ride with the counselors!"
