- Brandon McCarthy Is Broke, Needs Fixing - Just when things had started to go well for Brandon McCarthy in Arlington, he's now going to be making his second appearance on the disabled list this season. The first time it was for blisters, this time, it's a tad more serious than that. McCarthy has a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. I'm not exactly sure how you do that, especially since McCarthy hasn't faced Jose Offerman lately, but Brandon said he's had the injury for two and a half months, it's just nobody noticed until he had an MRI on Monday.
- Bartolo Colon Is On His Way Back - Though I'm sure there are a few Angels fans who would rather he just stayed away. Bartolo Colon's sore right elbow seems to be getting better, and the Angels are considering sending him on a minor league rehab stint in hopes that he can return to the rotation for the September stretch run.
- On Deck: NL Central Baseball, It's Fantastic! - Do teams feel as though there's some sort of curse that goes along with winning the NL Central or something? Doesn't anybody want to go to the playoffs, or are there vacations planned that just cannot be broken? I mean, winning the division last season seemed to work out pretty well for the Cardinals. Sure, they only won 83 games during the regular season, but the slate's wiped clean in the postseason. Now the Cardinals find themselves three games under .500, yet at the moment they're the odds on favorite to win the division! A win today against the Brewers and they will have completed a three-game sweep of the division "leaders" to pull within 2.5 games of first place. Dave Bush will be responsible for trying to slow down the streaking Cardinals, and though he'll still have Prince Fielder supporting him, I don't know that the big man can do it all himself. The Brewers have won 11 of Bush's last 14 starts, but it's his last three starts that are troubling. He's 0-3 with a 7.18 ERA over that span, and is giving up the long ball at an alarming rate. Adam Wainwright goes for St. Louis, and it's his first career start against Milwaukee.
