Today at FanHouse

Well, a little bit of yesterday too.

  • Kenny Rogers Halts Throwing Session - The original plan in Detroit was to have Kenny Rogers activated and back on the mound this Friday against Oakland. With the Tigers losing nine of their last ten games, and just coming off being swept at home by the White Sox, they could really use some good news right now. Unfortunately for them, I don't have any. All I can tell you is that Rogers had to end his throwing session early yesterday, and he's not going to be back on Friday.
  • Charlie Weis Is Fat, Charitable - He may have just lost his civil lawsuit, and he might not know who is starting quarterback is yet, but that doesn't mean Charlie Weis hasn't found any time to take care of other matters more important to his heart. On Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Weis broke ground on the new residential center for disabled adults he's building in honor of his daughter, Hannah.
  • Wisconsin Reinstates Lance Smith - You may remember the tale of Wisconsin running back Lance Smith. In it we heard of Smith's frugal outlook towards dating, and of his penchant for women's shoes. Particularly the part where he hits his girlfriend, takes some money from her, and then for good measure takes her shoes. And they say romance is dead. Not in Madison, Wisconsin it isn't.
  • MAC Daddies: Kalvin McRae - If the Ohio Bobcats are going to make a second straight appearance in the MAC Conference championship game, it's going to be by riding on senior running back Kalvin McRae's shoulders. All the talk surrounding running backs in the MAC may have been on Northern Illinois' Garrett Wolfe last season, but don't think opposing defenses aren't fully aware of who McRae is.
  • MAC Daddies: Dan LeFevour - While leading the Chippewas to their first conference title in eleven years, the GMAC Bowl MVP also set school records in passing yards (3,031), touchdowns (26), and total yards (3,552). The difference this season of course is that LeFevour and the Chippewas aren't going to sneak up on anybody. There's also another obstacle that the sophomore is going to have to overcome.
  • Eric Chavez Won't Be Back This Week - Eric Chavez has been on the disabled list since July 27th with a bad back, and though the Athletics were hoping the Gold Glove third baseman would be back this week, they're going to have to wait a little bit longer. While Chavez was hoping it was a little discomfort, now he fears the injury may be something worse than originally thought and he'll be meeting with a doctor on Wednesday to find out if his fear is justified.
