Today at FanHouse
I'm everywhere now.
- Andrew Miller Is On The DL - The Tigers have been losing more than games this weekend. They've also lost their young lefty Andrew Miller to the disabled list. Miller was warming up before the fifth inning on Friday when he grabbed his left hamstring and had to be taken from the game.
- Milton Bradley Feels Used, Abused - Yesterday Milton Bradley called Billy Beane a racist after seeing the way some black athletes have been treated in Oakland. Today he's toning it down a bit, and just sticking with the Billy Beane used me defense. The San Francisco Chronicle caught up with Bradley in San Diego yesterday to ask him to expand on his previous comments about Beane.
- Joe Paterno Wonders About Big Ten Officials - As all these types of scandals tend to do, they shed light on the same situation in other sports. Just yesterday we found out about a possible betting scandal on the men's ATP Tennis tour. Well, with Big Ten Media Day taking place last week, Joe Paterno was asked about officials and the possibility some of the Big Ten officials were ever on the take. Joe, as usual, was pretty honest about his feelings. Paterno can remember two games in his long career in which he feels officials got a call wrong deliberately.
- MAC Daddies: Nate Davis - When Nate Davis showed up at Ball State last year as a freshman, the last thing on his mind was taking over as starting quarterback. It's enough work for a freshman in college to go to class and learn a new playbook. But then it happened. The Cardinals got off to a 1-3 start last season and head coach Brady Hoke decided it was time to bench senior QB Joey Lynch in favor of his untested freshman, who had seen only limited playing time in the Cardinals' first three games.
- MAC Daddies: Louis Delmas - Louis Delmas is the starting free safety for the Western Michigan Broncos. Odds are you haven't heard of the junior, but offensive coordinators in the MAC sure know who he is. He's caused so much havoc in the middle of the field that they've had to form entire gameplans around Delmas. Delmas was slowed last season by an ankle injury and only played in 11 games, but still finished with 53 tackles, 4 interceptions and 5 passes defended. In other words, if you threw the ball against the Broncos defense, when it came down, Louis Delmas was in the immediate vicinity.
- On Deck: Prepare For The Voxslaying - Curt Schilling hasn't pitched in six weeks so he's probably a 5-star wizard now or something. The Red Sox are hoping he'll be able to bring his powers from the World of Warcraft to the World of Baseball tonight as he makes his first start since June 18th thanks to some shoulder tendinitis. He was very strong in his rehab assignments, pitching 15 scoreless innings for Pawtucket. I don't think he had to face Vladimir Guerrero at Pawtucket though, so I have a feeling he'll give up at least one run tonight. In his career at Angel Stadium, Schilling is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA. Jered Weaver gets the start for the Angels. Weaver has struggled in his last two starts, yet he's 1-0 with a 9.53 ERA during that span. Weaver made two starts against the Red Sox last season, and went 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA. So when he pitches terribly, he wins. When he pitches well, he loses. It makes so much sense.
