Today at the FanHouse
Where we all try to recover from our All-Star induced stupor.
- Tony Pena Likes to Swing-With all the talk of records being broken this season, and milestones achieved, a rather remarkable feat was accomplished by Kansas City Royals shortstop Tony Peña last weekend. During Saturday's Royals game against the Devil Rays, Peña fouled out to his namesake Carlos Peña in the fifth inning on the first pitch he saw from Andy Sonnanstine. Nobody noticed, or probably even knew of it, but with that foul out Peña broke a Kansas City Royals record. It was his 192nd consecutive at bat without taking a walk.
- M's Wait on Ichiro Announcement Due to Hargrove-Jeanne Zelasko may not have been paying attention when Ken Rosenthal reported during last night's game that the Mariners and Ichiro Suzuki have come to terms on a new contract, or maybe she just doesn't hear very well after spending all those years in the pits of NASCAR races, but you can't really blame her for being unaware of Ichiro's contract situation. After all, if you ask Ichiro or the Mariners, they'll pretend they have no idea what you're talking about. Even Ichiro's agent will tell you that the two sides are still talking.
- Mark Teixeira to Atlanta?-With just about every single baseball writer in the country in San Francisco the last few days, you can be sure there was a ton of talks going on about trades that could be made in the next few weeks before the July 31st deadline. On of the more popular names bandied about was Mark Teixeira. The Rangers have made it known publicly that they're not actively shopping Teixeira, but they're willing to listen to any offers. Getting past the fact that by saying that publicly, Texas is shopping Teixeira, I'll just focus on the latest possible destination for the slugging first baseman.
- Mike Piazza Compares Steroid Scandal to Kennedy Assassination-Mike Piazza recently did an interview with BeliefNet.com, and it turns out he's an All-Star Christian. At least, that's what the headline tells us. Personally, when fielding my Christian All-Star team, I'd go with St. Peter behind the plate. That guy has a gun, and he's no chump with the bat in his hands either. Anyway, during the interview Piazza is asked for his take on the steroids scandal in baseball today.
