Today at The FanHouse
Where we're easy. We're easy like Sunday morning.
- Felix Hernandez Listens to Bloggers-Hernandez lasted eight innings, giving up only two hits and no runs in Seattle's 4-0 victory. The key is where Hernandez got his strategy. Unlike Sports Illustrated, when Felix Hernandez takes something from a blog, he gives them credit.
- On Deck: Matsuzaka Invades Detroit-It took these two teams 13 innings to finally decide the outcome of their game yesterday, and who knows how long today's will take. Remember, on the final Sunday before the All-Star break last season, Boston was in Chicago playing a 19-inning affair with the White Sox. It's as if the Red Sox have a fear of the break and will do anything in their power to put it off. Daisuke Matsuzaka will be in charge of fighting the inevitable, as he makes his first start in Detroit. I get the feeling he'll like the vast expanse of centerfield, maybe even more than he enjoyed facing Detroit in Boston earlier this year. Dice-K's only complete game as a Major Leaguer came against the Tigers on May 14th at Fenway. Nate Robertson starts for Detroit, and he's struggling a bit. He hasn't won a game since May 19th and is 0-3 with a 8.36 ERA in his last five starts. The biggest reason could be the fact batters are hitting .363 against him during that span. So Nate not only loses games, he produces batting champions. A lethal combination.
- Rich Harden Doesn't Feel 'Exactly Right'-Well that didn't take long did it? After making his return to the starting rotation on Saturday afternoon, and being outclassed by the blog heeding Felix Hernandez, Rich Harden told his manager that he didn't feel very good after his start. He threw 66 pitches in his 2.2 innings of work, his expected amount of work, but as he was taken out of the game by Bob Geren he told his manager he didn't feel "exactly right."
- Placido Polanco Has a Sore Back-Placido Polanco had to leave last night's 13-inning Tigers victory with a bad back, and was held out of the team's lineup this afternoon as they face the Red Sox. The good news is that Placido says he feels better today, and the day off is just a precautionary move.
