Some Bears Are More Equal Than Others
If you wanted more proof that the McCaskey's are cheapskates, look no further.
The owners of the Bears have decided to award two different types of commemorative NFC championship rings to members of their organization.
The "executive ring," encrusted with more diamonds, will go to players, coaches, team President Ted Phillips and general manager Jerry Angelo.
"Lesser" personnel (like the head athletic trainer, equipment manager and staffs) will get one with less bling.
The Bears insist few staff are complaining and that the differences between the rings are minimal. But there is definite resentment in the ranks.
The slight difference in size and value is not the point in the minds of some people getting the rings worth less. The point, at least the one interpreted by some members of a group of employees the Bears consider a minority, is a lack of appreciation for key people in the organization who helped put the NFC champs together and keep them in one piece.
Foul Balls was able to contact a source in the Bears' front office, who sent us the prototype of the cheaper version.
