Morning Wood - Derby Edition

Remember when the Home Run Derby used to be fun to watch? Cuz it sure as hell isn't fun anymore. I mean, it's like ESPN wants me to hate the thing. As if having to deal with Chris Berman for two hours isn't bad enough, they decide to team him up with Dusty Baker and Joe Morgan.

All we need is Stephen A. Smith, and it's a party.

In order to make it interesting I put money on it. I bet on Justin Morneau to take the thing down, but then realized why that was such a dumb idea.

White Sox pitchers weren't throwing to him.

However, I did manage to win a little side bet I had that Prince Fielder would hit more home runs than defending champ Ryan Howard.

Vladimir Guerrero would end up winning the thing, defeating Alex Rios in the final round. I would have thought lefties would have the advantage in San Francisco with the short porch out there, but I didn't take into account the fact that the wind generally always blows in off of the bay.

Which explains why the final four were all righties: Guerrero, Rios, Albert Pujols, and Matt Holliday (who's probably the best player in the game right now you haven't heard of).

All in all, it was a long boring ass three hours, but there wasn't a damn thing else on. The next three days are easily the worst three days in sports of the year. There's nothing.

I can't even enjoy the All-Star Game because of the ridiculous stipulation that home field advantage in the World Series is decided by it. (If you check that link, no, I can't believe AOL let me write something that long either.)

Thursday can't get here soon enough.

Ballhype: hype it up!
