Dan Patrick is Leaving ESPN Radio
Dan Patrick just announced on his radio show that he will be leaving ESPN Radio on August 17th.
"I'm going to leave ESPN August 17," Patrick said at the beginning of the second hour of his show today, finally making an announcement that he has hinted at for some time. It put to an end a long period of speculation in which rumors surfaced of everything from Patrick getting a news talk show to Patrick hosting The Price Is Right. As somebody who spends a lot of time listening to sports radio while working here and at The FanHouse, let me say that I'm pleased by this news. While I enjoy the second hour of Patrick's show when Keith Olbermann joins him, I can't take the rest of the program. Patrick just repeats himself for two hours on the same topic.
Patrick said he looks forward to being a free agent, and that he hopes to stay in radio. He said he is not sure what his future in television holds. Patrick added that he delayed his announcement in part because ESPN wanted time to try to talk him out of leaving.
Of course, without knowing who's going to replace Patrick-Please, God. Don't let it be Schrutebag - I may be wishing I had him back in two months.
As for what Patrick's future holds, MDS over at The FanHouse speculates that Sporting News Radio is a strong possibility seeing as how his brother is the head of programming there.

What sports announcer doesn't repeat himself? At least when KO was on, it felt like some real conversation was taking place, something that you needed an IQ above body temperature to grasp. I'd take the two hours of dull for that one hour of gold anytime.
Odds are good that Schrutebag will be in his spot. If so, odds are better I'll be listening to another station.
What I mean by he repeats himself in when he goes on for ten minutes like this.
Is Barry Bonds bad for the game?
Is Bonds a cheater?
Are we unfaily blaming Bonds without actual evidence?
Is Barry Bonds doing something wrong?
If Barry Bonds took steroids, is that bad?
Barry Bonds: Cheater or Unfairly accused?
Let's ask Reggie Miller!!
No thanks. I'll listen to KO when he's on, but those other two hours you can find me over at The Score listening to Cubs fans make fun of the Sox.
I know he's insufferable without KO. But out here, he's no different than anyone else on the radio. Wish I had a choice. Now it's just gonna be all-bad, all-the-time.
