Morning Wood - I Can't Take Much More Of This

Pittsburgh Pirates 4 Chicago White Sox 2

Earlier on Friday, I told my fellow Fanhouser and keeper of Pirates blog Where Have You Gone, Andy Van Slyke, Pat Lackey, that if the Sox lost this series with the Pirates I'd quit on the season. We then went back and forth a little while debating whose team sucks worse. Well, Pat, I win round one! Personally, I like to think the Sox don't suck as much as they're just generous. I mean, they want to help out the unfortunate. How else could a guy like Pat Maholm, proud owner of a 2-9 record and an ERA of 5.33, pitch seven innings of three-hit baseball? Such charitable fellows, that White Sox offense. Seriously, do you see the uniforms the Pirates have to wear? How can you not feel sorry for those guys?

Chicago Cubs 4 San Diego Padres 1

No doubt further stoking my anger, the Cubs keep winning. It was bad enough when both teams were losing, but at least everybody was suffering. If the Cubs keep this up, I'll have to answer for all the crap I've talked the last few years, and I don't want to. I'm fragile. Mike Fontenot and Alfonso Soriano both went deep for the Cubs, as Ted Lilly finally pitched well again. Lilly lasted 8 innings, giving up only one run on 6 hits. Derrek Lee has also found his stroke again, as he went 4-for-4 with three doubles. Of course, one of those doubles could have been a home run if Cubs fans could catch.
