It Was This Or a Night in Jail With Paris Hilton
Now here's a punishment that fits the crime.
Mike Murray, announcer for the independent Golden Baseball League's Reno Silver Sox, got in hot water on Thursday following a close call at first base when he played a sound bite of a Bob Uecker line from the 1989 movie Major League over the PA system: "Personally, I think we got hosed on that call."
Home plate umpire Tyler Ramsey was not amused. Turning to the press box and pointing at Murrary, he threw him out of the stadium and then ordered the P.A. be shut down.
But it didn't end there.

But it didn't end there.
After reviewing the ejection report, GBL commissioner Kevin Outcalt determined the appropriate disciplinary action would be for Murray to work the first inning of Friday night's game between the two teams as the third base umpire. So last night, Murray, all dudded up in ump attire, apologized to the crowd right before the national anthem was played, then spent the first inning umpiring.
"The employee is a good employee but he needs to get some more perspective from the umpire's point of view so he understands how some of these things are reacted to. He has to apologize to the umpire crew and join the crew for the first inning in full regalia."
Murray admitted he was "a little nervous about it. I never even called a T-ball game before." Lucky for him, his tenure was uneventful.
But just as the inning concluded, Reno police appeared, handcuffed him and dragged him off the field. As he disappeared into the tunnel, he was heard screaming, "It's not fair! Mom! Mom!"
There has been no word from Murray since. Reno police have no comment.
