Morning Wood-Splitsville

Chicago White Sox 5 New York Yankees 3 Game 1

Well the White Sox offense showed up in the afternoon yesterday, getting five runs on nine hits. Keep in mind, nine hits for the Sox right now is equivalent to about 18 for any other team. John Danks also won his second straight start, shutting down the mighty Yankees for 6.1 innings, striking out seven. "It's more important just to get a win. Obviously to beat a team like the Yankees, that makes you feel a little better about yourself," he said. Too bad Danks couldn't start Game 2.

The offense disappeared against Chien-Ming Wang in the night cap. Wang held the Sox to six hits over seven innings. Jose Contreras' start went well until the seventh inning when the Yankees started piling on. What was a 2-1 Yankee lead going into the seventh inning became an 8-1 Yankee victory as they scored 6 runs in the final three frames. "Wang did what he usually does. We swung the bats a little better," Jeter said. "We've just been scuffling. We needed one of these games, but we need it to continue."

New York Mets 8 Chicago Cubs 1

This game started three hours late thanks to rain, and I'm pretty sure the Cubs wish it had never started. They only managed two hits and the mystery that is Rich Hill seems to be being solved by the rest of baseball. Hill has now lost three of his last four starts, and his ERA continues to climb. "He's walking people. He was not walking people earlier in the year and they are running on him," manager Lou Piniella said. "They are running on first move. We may have to go to a little bit of a slide step. He'll get better."
