At The Fanhouse
This is basically the last three days for me over at The Fanhouse.
- Playing For The A's Is The Most Dangerous Job In America-It's gotten to the point that I can't even think of any more jokes to make about the Oakland Athletics and the disabled list. Just yesterday they had to use the disabled list for the 12th time this season. The newest entrant? Congratulations, Milton Bradley.
- O-E-Whoa, Magglio-After hitting .344 with 4 home runs and 26 RBI in April, Maggs has kicked it up a notch in May. After today's performance, he's now hitting .380 with 8 home runs and 19 RBI this month, and has a lovely slugging percentage of .861. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if I read a story tomorrow about how Maggs cured cancer while saving 15 babies from a burning building.
- Mariners Re-Activate Mateo-Unlike some teams in baseball (cough, cough...Devil Rays!) when the Mariners found out about one of their players being arrested for domestic violence, they actually punished him. When Julio Mateo was arrested on May 5th, the Mariners suspended him for 10 days without pay, demoted him to Triple-A, and placed him on the Triple-A Temporarily Inactive list.
- Ron Roenicke Takes Mike Scioscia's Job-Even if it is only for a few days. Ron Roenicke will be managing the Angels over the weekend while Mike Scioscia attends his son's high school graduation from Crespi High in Encino. So I kind of officially hate Mike Scioscia right now because his son goes to school in Encino, and when I hear Encino I think of the movie Encino Man. Pauly Shore was in Encino Man, and it's way too early on a Saturday morning to force me to think about Pauly Shore. (Even though DMX appears to be a big fan) No time is a good time in fact.
- On Deck: Fighting For The AL Central-The Indians were able to take Round 1 of this series last night thanks to their bats, but I wouldn't expect nearly as much scoring this afternoon. That's because C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander will be toting the rock for their respective squads. Last year Sabathia only gave up 6 runs in 22 innings against the Tigers, but never got a win thanks to the fact his offense only managed one run of support in all three games. It won't be any easier for the Tribe today as Justin Verlander looks for his 5th win in May, and his 6th of the season.
- Felix Hernandez Keeps Scaring The Mariners-After cruising throughout most of the game, Felix Hernandez seemed to be struggling in the sixth inning. After Alex Gordon hit an RBI double for the Royals, M's pitching coach Rafael Chaves went to the mound to see what was going on. Then Chaves motioned to the dugout for Mike Hargrove.
- Seattle Proves To Be A Pain In Meche's Butt-As I just reported about here at The Fanhouse, Felix Hernandez had to leave Friday's Seattle rout of Kansas City with a tight lower back. Well, he wasn't the only starting pitcher at Kauffman Stadium who had to leave early. Gil Meche started Friday's game for the Royals, his first start against his former team, and had to leave after 4.1 innings with a pain in his butt.
