Did They Forget to Count the Florida Votes?
Those aren't our sentiments, as much as they're that of the folks who vote f
or the All-American teams in college football.
You see, last week it was announced that Jeff had made 2nd-team All America, the second time he received the honor.
Or maybe not. According to the Fort-Wayne Journal Gazette's Michael Rothstein, on his blog, Irish Insights, there was an error in counting the votes.
Last week, we were informed that senior wide receiver Jeff Samardzija was a consensus All-American for the second straight year. Upon further review...the NCAA has rescinded the honor.
When the organization compiled the list, it forgot to add the Sporting News second team All-American team. After adding the points for that team in, it knocked Samardzija off the squad.
So, Samardzija is off and it left USC junior Dwayne Jarrett and Georgia Tech junior Calvin Johnson as the two wide receivers on the consensus team.
Hey NCAA, thanks for kicking us while we're down. The fact that LSU kicked our ass in the Sugar Bowl wasn't enough.
When all is said and done though, it's kinda hard to argue with Dwayne Jarrett and Calvin Johnson being on the team. Both were better than Samardzija this season.
It's just the way it's gone down that's a little hard to stomach.
